Description

The Spanish Central Pyrenees in the province of Huesca are probably the most diverse mountain and valley landscape in the entire Pyrenees. The heart of the hiking region is the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, which was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. It offers walkers an enormous wealth of impressive natural images with magnificent canyon valleys and mountain basins, right next to flower-strewn high plateaus, gentle mountain ranges and the wildly deformed limestone masses of the three thousand meter peaks with Monte Perdido as the outstanding summit destination. The neighboring valleys around Benasque and Panticosa are no less fascinating and varied. Countless mountain lakes, mighty granite peaks, bizarre limestone chains and romantic high pastures dominate the scenery. And of course you can't miss the Maladeta glacier massif in the Posets-Maladeta Nature Park with the Pico de Aneto as the highest peak in the entire Pyrenees.

The variety of landscapes is matched by the many attractive hiking options: Lonely valley paths, sport-oriented summit ascents, mule tracks with great views, airy cornices and imposing canyon tours invite you to discover and enjoy a mountain world that has still been largely spared from mass tourism and its effects. In 70 routes, this Rother hiking guide offers a selection that does justice to the facets of this unique landscape and takes into account the different needs and performance requirements of hikers.

Roger Büdeler | Bergverlag Rother | 4th edition 2016 | 208 pages | 122 color illustrations, 70 elevation profiles, 70 hiking maps at a scale of 1:25,000, 1:50,000 and 1:75,000, two overview maps | format 11.5 x 16.5 cm | paperback with Polytex lamination
