Description

The official UK50 series (1:50000 area map) provides specific leisure information for contiguous Bavarian regions.

The map is based on the TK50 (1:50000 topographic map) with UTM grid for GPS users and terrain display.

The Bavarian Forest National Park and the Czech Národnípark Šumava (Šumava National Park), this "boundless forest wilderness", are known as the "Green Roof of Europe". In the first German national park, the motto is still "Let nature be nature". Information points such as the Lusen (near Neuschönau) and Falkenstein (near Lindberg/Zwiesel) national park centers provide an initial introduction - with exhibitions and animal enclosures. In Neuschönau, the famous treetop walk completes the spectrum. Furthermore, there is the Forest History Museum in St. Oswald and the forest play area near Spiegelau. But of course the forest itself is the No. 1 destination. Several primeval forest areas around the Falkensteine are waiting to be explored, the large peaks such as Rachel and Lusen (shown on the cover photo from the Czech side) are furthermore included, as is the rock hiking area near Mauth. The "Schachten und Filze" adventure trail opens up the equally interesting raised bogs and mountain pastures. Hiking buses make it possible to explore the landscape in an environmentally friendly way.

The southern foothills are characterized more by culture: the Gläserne Steig connects old glassmaking towns such as Zwiesel and Frauenau with their (sometimes centuries-old) glassworks and glass museums. And there is also history to discover in the open-air museum in Finsterau.

Map sheet UK50-29 Bavarian Forest National Park, Eastern Nature Park, Sumava National Park

REGIONS: Lower Bavaria, Upper Palatinate, Bohemian Forest, Bavarian Forest, Pfahl

LOCATIONS: Regen, Zwiesel, Grafenau, Spiegelau, Bodenmais, Frauenau, Großer Rachel, Großer Arber, Lusen, Bayerisch Eisenstein
